Scott D. Owens, Esq.
Scott was raised in Amherst, New York and graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1996 where he majored in Political Science and minored in International History. In 2000, Scott received his Juris Doctorate from the New England School of Law where he had served as the (1999) President of the National Jewish Law Students Association.
Prior to forming the law firm of Cohen & Owens, P.A., Scott was an associate attorney at a major creditor's rights firm in South Florida and then later litigated against major insurance companies on behalf of medical providers. Scott’s current focus is in the area of consumer rights, which includes:
- Violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (“FDCPA”) and Florida’s Consumer Collections Practices Act (“FCCPA”)
- Violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (“FCRA”)
- Violations of Florida’s Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act (“FDUTPA”)
- Violations of the Florida Mechanic’s Lien Law (i.e. the filing of unlawful construction liens under Fla. Stat. § 713.01 et seq.)
- Mortgage Fraud
- Slander of Title / Slander of Credit
- Identity Theft
- Invasion of Privacy
Scott is a member of several prominent legal organizations including the National Association of Consumer Advocates (“NACA”), Hadassah Attorney's Council, and The Florida Justice Association. Scott enjoys traveling, participating in various charitable organizations and riding his motorcycle throughout South Florida.
